Frequently Asked Questions About Our Dissolution

Why is the Women’s Defense Coalition of Delaware dissolving?
After nearly a decade of advocacy, education, and training, we made the difficult decision to formally dissolve the nonprofit due to sustainability challenges.

Operating the Coalition required significant daily commitments beyond our full-time careers and family responsibilities, including legislative analysis, advocacy efforts, educational programming, administrative management, and organizational compliance. After deep reflection, we determined that continuing to operate at this level was no longer sustainable.

This decision was made with great care and comes with genuine sadness.

Was this a financial decision?
No. While nonprofit administration always carries financial and operational demands, this decision was primarily about time, capacity, and sustainability. The work required to maintain the organization had grown beyond what our volunteer leadership could reasonably continue while balancing family and professional obligations.

Is the mission ending?
No. While the Women’s Defense Coalition of Delaware is dissolving as a legal nonprofit entity, our commitment to women’s self-defense education, advocacy, and empowerment remains unchanged.

Our team members will continue this work independently and through informal efforts, just as many of us did before formal incorporation.

Will trainings continue?
Some educational and training efforts may continue in different formats through individual instructors, advocates, and community partnerships.

Because these activities will no longer operate under the Coalition’s nonprofit structure, future opportunities may look different from what members have experienced in the past.

What happens to memberships?
All memberships associated with the organization will conclude as part of the dissolution process. All membership renewals have ceased and no further fees will be assessed to members. Members should check their email for any member communications.

What will happen to the organization’s remaining funds?
All remaining organizational funds will be donated to the Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association to support ongoing legal efforts related to Second Amendment rights in Delaware.

This decision reflects our longstanding commitment to preserving the rights connected to personal safety and self-defense.

Why not recruit new leadership instead?
We carefully considered all available options. The work required to sustain the Coalition effectively demands substantial time, specialized knowledge, and long-term operational commitment. After evaluating what would be required for a responsible transition, we determined dissolution was the most appropriate course of action.

Can I still contact former board members?
Yes. While the organization itself is dissolving, many of us remain active in advocacy, education, and community engagement. We appreciate continued connections and support.

Please understand that response times and availability may vary as we transition away from formal operations.

How can supporters continue the mission?
We encourage supporters to:

  • Continue seeking high-quality self-defense education and training

  • Stay engaged in legislative and community advocacy

  • Support organizations advancing individual rights and personal safety

  • Empower women in their own communities through education and mentorship

The mission has always been larger than any one organization.

Is this goodbye?
Not entirely. This is the end of one chapter—not the end of the work.

The Coalition may be dissolving, but the values that built it remain strong, and the commitment to empowering women across Delaware continues.
